We can rebuild her...

Patient "Trefoil" was admitted to our care nearly eleven hours ago and only now have we let the poor mare be. Our doctors, under the constant supervision of our medical director Steady pulse, worked like mad-ponies during our marathon surgery. Happily I am proud to say that all our work was not in vein as the mare is out of the danger zone and on her way to recovery.

Steady pulse will of course indulge himself in writing up a full medical report and filling it away so I wont bother with the details here as this is for my own personal record.

Patient apparently suffered from some catastrophic munitions detonation at point blank range, rending her chest, neck, and left half of her face. The on sight medic must be some sort of quack as nothing was set before healing potions and spells were applied. Thankfully it seems from the evidence inside the poor mare that another doctor mended some of the more drastic mistakes done by the first.

With as much that happened to this mare its difficult for me to say what did more damage, the blast or her initial medical treatment prior to arriving here at our facility. In any case she will live, however quite a bit of our work was drastic to say the least.

Her rib cage was nearly non-existent when she arrived, what was left was twisted and malformed by sloppy magic. We have mended what we could but eventually we had to fall back on re-enforcing her rib-cage with metal bracing. This will help her in the here and now but with such bracing it is unlikely they will ever become strong enough to function without them, this will eventual mean further surgeries as the years progress to replace them with larger bracing as she grows.

We managed to save part of her leg, which was fortunate as the only prosthetic we have up and running would have been useless had she not maintained at least the partial use of the leg below the knee. The fit was awkward but we made it work, nothing to fancy but it will mean she can (clumsily) walk again with some practice. Unfortunately for her the portion of the leg we did save was almost completely dead, never again will she regain feeling in it nor shall fur ever grow on it again. I have already asked that one of other assistants fetch a long sock to help her hide the disfiguration.

What will be much harder to hide are the scars. Most of the scarring was fixed with skin grafting and cleaver magic but we cant do miricals, especially with the equipment we are saddled with up here at this resort. Fur should grow eventually to cover much of it but the worst of it (around her chest and cheek) will never grow over. Much of the side of her face is like her leg, between the gap in her cheek and the general lack of sensation she will most likely have at least some small slur (although this is only a suspicion of mine, one that not all the other doctors share).

And of course we could not replace her eye, even if we had a suitable bionic implant I don't think even Steady pulse would know how to go about sorting it out. We were however much luckier in finding a hearing aid to help replace her missing ear. Not only will it function as well as her old one but on a more lighthearted note it can pick up radio.

Before I complete this private passage for my medical journals I have one last sad bit of news to relay. While many of her organs were mended there were a few that were beyond even replacing (unlike her liver which we swapped out for a mechanical one to help keep up with her blatant alcohol abuse). To be frank and to the point I will only say that she will never be able to carry a filly.
